Wouter Verschuur Jr.

Wouter Verschuur jr was the youngest son of the famous horse painter Wouterus Verschuur. He was taught by his father. Although Verschuur jr also painted horses his style tends to lean more towards impressionism (Hague School) than that of his father’s romanticism.
Wouter Verschuur jr was born in Haarlem were he worked until 1869. He was a member of ‘Kunst zij ons Doel’. Then he moved to Amsterdam, were he became a member of the famous artist’s society ‘Arti et Amicitae’. At least twice, he went on a trip to Normandy (France) together with fellow-artist Willem Karel Nakken. One of those trips occurred in 1867. The trips must have caused great excitement for the young artist as more travels would come and the artists would live half of his live abroad as well. In 1870 he visited Menton in the South of France, while traveling though Switzerland. After 1879 Verschuur jr moved to Paris and thereafter Geneva and Lausanne (Switzerland).
