Pieter Lodewijk Francisco Kluyver

1816 – Amsterdam – 1900

Pieter Lodewijk Francisco Kluyver was born in Amsterdam, where he lived and worked as a professional artist. In 1848 he moved to Amersfoort. He was tought by M. de Root. Other sources mention the landscape painter George Andries Roth (1809-1887) as his teacher.

Kluyver became known for his extensive landscape paintings with beautiful lighting. They were usually situated in the surroundings of Arnhem, Amersfoort, The Hague, Haarlem and Amsterdam. Furthermore, he painted forest scenes and landscapes with cattle. Particularly his winter landscapes are in high demand. Kluyver’s best works belong to the finest of the Dutch Romantic School.
