Akkeringa, Johannes Evert Hendrik

Johannes Evert Hendrik Akkeringa was born in the Dutch Indies, but moved to the Netherlands when he was 6 years old. He grew up in the art scene of The Hague and the traditions of the impressionist Hague School were an important part of his education. His painting style can be described as moderately impressionistic with an intimate, sometimes even tender quality.

Akkeringa lived, amongst others, in Loosduinen, The Hague, Scheveningen and Voorburg. There were dunes and beaches there, and also the Scheveningse Bosjes, places he liked to go to paint. Nature was the main source of inspiration for Akkeringa. Some of his favourite subjects were dune views with net menders, beaches with kids playing, tea gardens and also still lifes with flowers.
